Every Sunday night throughout the world, a large dread is cast over millions of people as they contemplate going back to work on Monday morning after enjoying a weekend off. If you are one of these people who cannot think of anything worse than going back to work on Monday morning then it is time to start making changes so that you no longer get that Sunday night feeling.
We spent some time with business guru Leslie Hocker, to find out just how to beat those Monday morning blues and if you want to start enjoying your Sunday nights again, here is how to go about it.
Gain the Power
The key to no longer dreading Monday mornings is to take charge and look at it as though it was a battle between Monday morning and you, a battle which you will not lose. If you view the Monday morning like this, you will actually start to find yourself looking forward to Monday morning as though it was a weekend. Changing your mindset is not easy and it will take time but you must start to employ a siege mentality when it comes to how you approach the start of a new week.
Perspective
What if this was the last Monday morning of your entire life? What if on Wednesday you are going to die? With this in mind, would you still dread Monday morning? Would you still hate what you are about to do or would you embrace it and enjoy every single minute of it. There is no telling how many more Monday mornings any of us have left and if you can put it in this perspective every Sunday night, you will wake up with renewed vigor on Monday morning.
Change the Facts
If the way you feel on Monday morning or Sunday night is so terrible because you hate what you do, then it is time to change the facts. If you are in a job that you hate, change it, if you are dreading speaking to someone tomorrow, don’t talk to them. Whatever your reasons are for not looking forward to Monday, assuming that it is beyond that normal ‘hating Mondays’ feeling, then you need to change things around until you are happier. We only get one shot at life, don’t waste it doing things that make you unhappy.
Get Up Earlier
The best remedy that I have found to get over my Monday morning blues is to get up really early and make sure that I am more than ready for what is about to come. If you are able to, try getting up at 5, do some exercise, get home and showered, eat a health breakfast and then head into work full of energy. Getting up late, dragging yourself together and then starting work is no way to positively start the day and you should really try to add some vitality into your Monday morning routine.
