
If you are planning a visit to the state of Texas, a trip to the city of Dallas is highly recommended. Situated in the northeast of the state, close to the border with Oklahoma, Dallas can be easily reached by road or by air. The city boasts friendly locals, fabulous weather and a staggering range of activities to keep you busy. The surrounding area offers some of the most amazing landscape in the States and it is so easy to get around that it really is the perfect place to get out and explore at your own pace.
In downtown Dallas itself there is plenty to do and the City Hall of Fame, Dallas Central Library and Fountain Place are all well worth a visit. If you are visiting in the summer then the outdoor concerts by the Dallas Symphony Orchestra are an absolute must, as is stuffing your face with the famous Texan Boomerang’s Pies! The city is also home to some excellent shopping outlets where you can find everything from international stores to small local boutiques and craft stalls.
Dallas is a paradise for lovers of the great outdoors and with its beautiful year round climate it is always a good time to visit. For those that really like to get close to nature, Dallas and the surrounding area is extremely well equipped with camp sites and parks so you will be spoilt for choice when it comes to sleeping. Of course you don’t come to Dallas to sleep, when there is so much to explore outside.
For those that like to get away from it all on hiking or biking trails, there are some wonderful excursions to try ranging from a relaxing stroll in the countryside to a more adventurous 11 mile route around a stunning lake. If you are travelling with children then a wonderful family trip is to hire some bikes, pack a picnic and set off for a day of adventure together.

When the temperatures start to rise Texas boasts a wide range of lakes and rivers that make a wonderful option for a cooling day of outdoor fun. Within the Dallas area you can choose from over 60 lakes where you can enjoy a wide range of outdoor pursuits, such as boat rides, canoeing or fishing and the children will love splashing around in the water. Many of the lakes are set in well-equipped parklands which also offer picnic spots, playgrounds and shops. The White Rock Lake is a particularly appealing spot set in stunning surrounds and offering a wealth of outdoor activities for all the family.
For something a little more sedate you can also enjoy the climate and fresh air in the heart of the city. Right in downtown Dallas you will find the beautiful sculpture garden at the base of the Trammell Crow Centre. Set in a tranquil garden with flowing streams and bubbling waterfalls this delightful Art Garden is a lovely way to spend a morning wandering among the impressive works of some of the most renowned masters, including Rodin.
With so much to see and do it is worth setting aside at least a few days for your visit to Dallas. The city and its surrounds are easy to get around by car and the public transport system is fairly well developed. If you are short of time, a great option is to fly in and rent a car for the duration of your stay. It is then easy to continue your journey beyond Dallas, with connecting flights to Houston running every day. This makes travelling to Dallas from Europe a lot easier, with connecting direct flights with Expedia and Emirates.
